This design will use handmade papercrete tiles with a solid foam core. Waste paper from neighboring businesses can be incorporated into the papercrete mix.
As the city of Asheville has set a goal of 50% waste reduction by 2035, residents of 55 South Market and their neighbors will be inspired to participate in sustainability efforts which will preserve the natural beauty of the mountains, forests, and waterways which surround the city.
Each tile will be a piece of a larger landscape painting. The painting will feature the Blue Ridge Mountains in the morning. The image will remind residents and their neighbors of the possibility of a new day and the adventures that await a short distance away in the mountains.
